Air Curtain Systems

Air curtain in a steel hall

An air curtain is a device that generates a strong, controlled stream of air, creating an invisible barrier at the boundary of two zones – most commonly between the interior of a hall and the external environment. This barrier can be compared to a sort of "air wall" that limits unwanted flows of air mass, moisture, dust, or insects. In steel halls, where there is intense movement of forklifts, trucks, or personnel through large doors and gates, the role of such a barrier is particularly important. The primary task of the air curtain is to reduce heat or cold loss. In the winter season, the stream of warm air prevents the influx of cold air from outside. Conversely, in the summer, it can limit the entry of hot air masses into the air-conditioned part of the building. Air curtains are also categorized based on the method of thermal supply: without heating, with an electric heater, with a water heater, or integrated with a heat recovery system. In Gaj-Stal projects, water curtains or those without heating are most commonly used, selected individually depending on the usage of the building, the industry, the type of stored goods, and the technical possibilities of the heat source.
