Basalt rods
Basalt roving is a fundamental raw material for the production of various types of reinforcing and thermal insulation materials. Roving is an untwisted continuous strand made up of fibers with a small diameter (9 to 20 μm) and has a linear density ranging from 50 to 4800 tex. Basalt roving consists of a bundle of continuous, unidirectional single basalt fibers. The product is characterized by the high natural strength of basalt, resistance to aggressive environments, long lifespan, and excellent electrical insulation properties. In terms of technical properties, basalt roving surpasses glass type S and glass type E in many parameters and is almost as good as carbon fiber. Basalt roving is exceptionally heat resistant: it can periodically operate at temperatures up to +1000°C. The temperature range for long-term use is from -260°C to +680°C. Basalt roving has a wide range of applications. It is used to produce refractory materials, basalt fabrics, pultruded composites, basalt meshes, geogrids, components for car bodies and interiors, boats and yachts, wind turbine blades, propellers for boats, high-pressure bottles, synthetic rattan furniture, filters for purification devices, etc. Durability: A product with high mechanical parameters and resistance to aggressive environments. Economics: A favorable alternative to carbon and glass fibers. Ecology: A natural product processed in an environmentally friendly manner with a low carbon footprint, fully recyclable. Basalt roving possesses a number of unique technical and utility properties, such as: - high mechanical strength, - resistance to biological and chemical corrosion: alkalis, acids, and other aggressive environments, - resistance to seawater, - ability to filter aggressive substances, - high frost resistance, thermal resistance, moisture resistance, - high sound absorption, - low thermal conductivity, - resistance to ultraviolet radiation, - dielectric and diamagnetic properties, - it is an environmentally friendly material. Basalt roving is the best substitute for glass fiber: exhibiting greater strength and less brittleness, basalt roving easily replaces glass fiber, thereby ensuring the reliability and durability of finished products. Basalt roving is a great alternative to carbon fiber: basalt slightly lags behind carbon in terms of modulus of elasticity, but is more resistant to point impact loads, less brittle, and unlike carbon, is a dielectric. Furthermore, basalt has significantly greater fire resistance than carbon fibers.
